Fellow members

Heads up! A date for your diaries. October 21-24, 2020.

I hope the email finds you all in good health and still enjoying life to the full. I would ask that you take a little time out and give some thought to our next AFAITC Reunion

At the last AFAITC Reunion in Honolulu (how can we forget it) the decision at the farewell meeting was to arrange our next Reunion in Washington DC with, from a cast of thousands, yours truly (JB) agreeing to arrange the gathering. I have the Baton!

The suggested date was in October 2020 in the fall with details on accommodation, visit program, etc to be determined later. As such, I have ‘set the ball rolling’ in discussion with Walt and Ken and selected the above dates – hopefully this agreeable to all?

You will recall that we discussed possible accommodation options and, based on previous Reunion experience, the Embassy Suites in downtown Alexandria is the lead contender for accommodation (the hotel chain offers breakfast inclusive, a good meeting area and has a popular ‘happy hour’ at a reasonable rate). Walt has suggested others if this is not available or proves to be too expensive.

Open general booking is not available on line at the moment (more than 12 months ahead) but I am sure that we can arrange a Group booking shortly. To give me some idea of the Group overall size for tentative booking purposes, it would help if you could give me some indication of your intention to attend, or otherwise. I would expect some members would wish to be on site both before and possibly after the proposed Reunion dates.

Washington is a beautiful city and has many attractions to discover in the area – Battlefields, Museums; Air & Space; FBI; Natural History; all the famous Washington sights – White House; Capitol Building; the Monument; War memorials; Mount Vernon etc Again, I am open to suggestions to make our Reunion memorable.

There are plenty of local tour companies and good local restaurants to make it a special event. As for a military/government visit – not sure if Langley will play ball, or DIA but I could approach Don Swain in Williamsburg for a few contacts; We shall see. As a final Farewell, Walt has suggested an evening Dinner Cruise along the Potomac to view the many floodlit national monuments – sounds good to me!

That’s all for now

Take care

Regards to all

John and Sandra
